I wanted to provide you an update regarding Personal theft (e.g. pick pocketing, no violence used), which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Parcel Delivery Crime Prevention Advice
Please consider alternative delivery options if you are not likely to be home when a parcel is due to arrive.
When parcels are left unattended outside a property, they can become an easy target for opportunistic thieves.
To reduce the risk of theft:
Use a designated safe place where available, ensuring it is out of sight from the street and inaccessible to passers-by. Arrange delivery to a trusted neighbour who will be at home to receive the parcel. Use parcel lockers or collection points offered by many delivery companies and retailers. Track deliveries using courier apps or notifications so you know when a parcel is due to arrive. Consider changing the delivery date if you know nobody will be at home. Install a doorbell camera or CCTV where appropriate, as these can deter offenders and provide evidence if a theft occurs. Avoid leaving delivery instructions that direct parcels to be left in obvious or insecure locations such as front doorsteps, porches with open access, or behind bins visible from the street.
Remember, a parcel left unattended is potentially an opportunity for theft. Taking a few simple precautions can significantly reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim.
If you see suspicious behaviour involving parcels or deliveries in your area, report it to the police. In an emergency or if a crime is in progress, call 999.
